As we’re heading into the new year, comes a lot of goal setting, resolutions, and new trends. It’s crazy to think about how fast the past year went by. It’s also such an exciting time to think about starting new healthy habits and commitments to yourself for self-development and growth in this next year. Most people overestimate what they can do in a year but underestimate what they can do in 5 years. NOW is the best time to get started! So let’s head into 2024 strong with lots of ambition, motivation, and the drive to improve.
Remember…nothing changes if nothing changes.
Here are my top 4 health & wellness predictions you can jump on board for in 2024.
- Rebounding workouts will increase in popularity. Rebounding (jumping on a mini trampoline) is one of the best workouts you can do. It helps activate your lymphatic system to promote lymphatic drainage, it increases circulation, it eliminates toxins, it increases metabolism, and speeds up weight loss, along with so many other incredible benefits (to learn more about rebounding and the benefits, check out my blog post “The Most Under Rated Workout”. You can also get huge results in a short period of time – no more hour long sweat sessions needed. Not to mention, it’s fun! You can’t help to smile when you’re jumping on a trampoline. You’ll see more apps focused on rebounder workouts and more studios adding it into their line up. You’ll want to jump (pun intended) onto this trend in 2024!
- A (very slow) transition away from seed oils. There is a lot of buzz around seed oils right now and not in a good way. Educated and clean-conscious consumers are starting to put pressure on the food industry to clean up their act. We’ve already started seeing this in some packaged goods by eliminating chemicals and pesticide-ridden ingredients that have been linked to cancer and other diseases. However, it’s nearly impossible to pick up a packaged good and not see a seed oil listed as an ingredient. While this will happen slowly, you’ll see some companies starting to replace seed oils with healthier alternatives such as avocado oil, coconut oil, or olive oil.
- Activewear companies will start to change their materials so they eliminate BPAs. This is an unfortunate truth that activewear lovers (like me!) have come to learn. And no, none of the big brand name companies are safe. The material used in these products contains harmful BPAs (a chemical used to make plastic) which can lead to harmful health effects such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, asthma, and obesity to name a few. Studies have found that activewear can contain up to 40x what the FDA has deemed as safe. When you’re sweating, these harmful chemicals can get absorbed into your skin making their way into your bloodstream. While these updates to their clothing won’t happen immediately, you’ll start to see BPA free being included on the labels of companies who are making these changes.
- There will be a decline in alcohol consumption. With more and more information about how bad alcohol is for you (yes, even a glass of wine), health-conscious consumers will start drinking mocktails or other non-alcoholic alternatives. Not only does alcohol impair your brain and lead to disease, but it’s an industry with very lose standards when it comes to what companies have to disclose about the ingredients used – AKA it’s full of other harmful chemicals and substances. Even though you may feel like you’re distressing or unwinding from a hectic day with a drink, it increases your cortisol levels so this feeling is temporary and you’ll actually feel more stressed and anxious as a longer-term effect. While I don’t think happy hours are going to go away, I think the amount people drink and how frequently they drink will start to decline. People want to feel better all around and are coming to learn that eliminating alcohol has a significant impact on their mood and overall health.
I want to know what your 2024 health & wellness predictions are and which trends you’re getting on board with this new year!
